Material Excellence, Tailored by Hand
Gonçalo Alves Handle – Exotic Hardness, Deep Colour, and Bold Grain
Gonçalo Alves is a tropical hardwood revered for its strength, density, and striking visual contrast. Often referred to as “Tigerwood” for its bold streaks and swirling patterns, it offers both durability and undeniable aesthetic presence.
Each handle is shaped and finished by hand, highlighting the natural flow of the grain and creating a rich surface that’s tactile and timeless.
Black Liner – Refined Structure and Elegant Contrast
A black liner between tang and timber enhances internal structure while providing subtle visual balance. It separates the dense grain of the Gonçalo Alves from the tang, adding both stability and refinement.
Suminagashi San Mai VG10 – Layered Steel, Unique to Each Blade
At the core of the blade lies VG10 stainless steel, selected for its hardness, cutting clarity, and edge retention. The core is protected through San Mai construction, with softer stainless steel layers laminated on either side for added toughness and corrosion resistance. The outer surfaces are etched and polished to reveal the blade’s Suminagashi pattern — flowing wave-like lines created by layering and folding steels of different carbon contents. Each blade is visually unique, with no two marbled patterns alike.
Key Attributes of Suminagashi San Mai VG10 Steel:
• Razor-sharp edge and long-lasting performance
• Triple-layer San Mai construction for strength and durability
• High corrosion resistance for professional kitchen use
• Signature Suminagashi wave pattern – forged into the blade, not printed
• A premium VG10 kitchen knife — engineered for excellence

The Commemorative Japanese Pin – A Mark of International Distinction
Each knife in this edition features a Commemorative Japanese Pin, created to honour Patrick Joseph’s invitation to the prestigious Seki Invitational Knife Show in Japan. Held in the historic city of Seki — the heart of Japanese blade-making — the show recognises the finest artisan kitchen knives in the world. The pin symbolises shared values of excellence, tradition, and respect between cultures.
