Course and Experience Booking Terms

Welcome
We look forward to welcoming you to the workshop. Our courses offer personal tuition with limited participant numbers, so each booking reserves dedicated workshop time and a place for you. Please read these terms before booking and contact us if you have any questions.

1. Your booking
Courses are provided by Patrick Joseph, of the business address listed on the Patrick Joseph website at www.patrickjoseph.ie. Contact: info@patrickjoseph.ie or 086 8633617. Your booking confirmation will identify the course, dates, workshop location and attendance times. The course description supplied before purchase explains what is included, participant numbers and any age or experience requirements. Please check that the dates and course requirements suit you before booking.

2. Prices and payment
The total price, including applicable taxes, and any deposit or balance payment arrangements will be shown before purchase. Optional extras require your agreement. Your place is confirmed when we issue written booking confirmation. If we cannot accept your booking, we will return any payment made. Where a balance is overdue, we will contact you and allow a reasonable opportunity to pay before cancelling your reservation.

3. If your plans change
A course booking is for the specified course and year and is not a gift card or general monetary voucher. Once a course has been purchased, materials, parts, workshop time and tuition are allocated to that booking. Refunds are not available for a change of mind, cancellation or non-attendance, except where a refund or adjustment is required by law. If you would like to request another date, please email info@patrickjoseph.ie at least 28 days before the course starts, giving your name and booking details. We will consider your request, but transfers or rescheduling are at Patrick Joseph’s discretion and subject to available places. A particular replacement date cannot be guaranteed. A transfer takes effect only when confirmed by us in writing. Requests made with less than 28 days’ notice will not normally be accepted. We may make an exception in individual circumstances, but this is not guaranteed. Normally, only one transfer is permitted per booking. Any additional cost will be explained and agreed before a transfer is confirmed. If you do not attend or miss part of the course, we cannot guarantee replacement tuition or another date.

4. Another person attending in your place
If you cannot attend, you may ask us to approve a replacement participant. Please contact us in advance so we can confirm that they meet the course requirements and receive the necessary information. Approval will not be unreasonably withheld where the requirements are met.

5. Cancellation and rescheduling
Once a course has been sold and paid for, it is treated as a confirmed booking. Refunds are not allowed for cancellation by the participant because materials, parts, preparation and workshop time are allocated upon purchase, except where a refund or adjustment is required by law. Where appropriate, a request to reschedule may be made in accordance with section 3. Any rescheduling is subject to Patrick Joseph’s agreement and availability.

6. Changes made by Patrick Joseph
If we cancel your course, you may choose an available replacement date or a full refund of the course payments made. If we propose a significant change to your dates, location, advertised personal tuition or course content, we will explain it promptly. You may accept the change or cancel for a full refund. Minor adjustments to the order of activities may be made to support safe and effective teaching. If a course is interrupted, we will offer an appropriate completion arrangement or other remedy in accordance with your consumer rights.

7. Enjoying the workshop safely
Relevant safety equipment must be brought by attendees where specified, including suitable hearing, eye and respiratory protection. If you do not have suitable hearing, eye or respiratory safety equipment, Patrick Joseph may be able to provide it, subject to availability and suitability. Safety instruction will be provided before and during the course. Please follow the instructor’s guidance and use equipment only as instructed. Safety boots or other suitable protective footwear should be worn. Wear practical, non-combustible clothing made from natural materials such as cotton rather than man-made fibres. You will be assessed on arrival and, where there is a safety concern, a protective overall may be provided or required. Please contact us before booking if you need an adjustment or support to participate safely. We will discuss suitable arrangements with you. Attendees must be able to use tools safely and must not participate while impaired by alcohol or other substances. We may pause or stop participation where reasonably necessary to protect attendees or others. Any financial consequences will be assessed fairly and in accordance with law. Please arrive on time, as safety instruction is an essential part of the course.

8. Your finished work
Courses follow the advertised curriculum and use set traditional templates that are suitable for student participation and can reasonably be completed within the course time. Alternative designs, materials or additional work must be agreed in advance. Due to time constraints and the need to complete the work safely, each course has limits on the type and size of knife that may be made. A two-day course normally allows the participant to make one everyday-carry knife with a blade of approximately 3–4 inches (76–102 mm), or a small kitchen knife, such as a paring knife, usually up to approximately 4 inches (102 mm). A five-day course normally allows the participant to make an outdoor knife or kitchen knife with a blade of up to approximately 8 inches (203 mm), subject to the course template, materials, the participant’s ability and the instructor’s assessment of what can safely be completed within the available time. The available templates are traditional designs selected because they are achievable through student participation during the relevant course. The instructor may require a participant to use a particular template or reduce the scope of the work where necessary for safety, time or successful completion. Handmade results vary with individual progress, but we remain responsible for supplying the course and advertised outcomes in accordance with your contract and consumer rights. We will explain the safe handling and care of your finished knife. Please check any travel, carrier or destination requirements relevant to taking it home.

9. Course entitlement
A course purchased for a specified year is an entitlement to attend that course during the specified year, subject to the confirmed booking dates and these terms. It is not a gift card, monetary voucher or general-purpose voucher. The course entitlement cannot be exchanged for cash or transferred to another course or year unless Patrick Joseph agrees in writing. Any approved transfer remains subject to availability and the rescheduling terms above.

10. Photographs and privacy
We will handle your personal information in accordance with our privacy notice. Permission to use identifiable photographs or video for marketing will be requested separately; it is not a condition of attendance.

11. Your rights and contacting us

Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for personal injury caused by our acts or omissions. If you have a concern about your booking or experience, please contact info@patrickjoseph.ie or 086 8633617 so we can help resolve it. Irish law applies without removing any mandatory consumer protections applicable to you. The terms accepted when you book govern your booking; later website changes do not retrospectively remove your rights.

Thanks, Patrick
